Opening night concert
Brazilian MPB / Singer Songwriter / Pop
Journeyman singer, songwriter, poet, and multi-instrumentalist Rodrigo Amarante first became known as a member of popular Brazilian rock group Los Hermanos before launching a solo career in 2013. Since then, Amarante has released multiple albums and has formed Little Joy and was part of Devendra Banhart group. Amarante is also known for writing and performing the theme song for Netflix popular series "Narcos." Opening the night is Alice Caymmi, the MPB singer, songwriter and granddaughter of Dorival Caymmi who is blazing her own trail in the independent music world in Brazil and beyond.

Dendê Macêdo delivers ecstatic percussive incantations to invoke the gods of Afro-Brazilian Candomblé . For world-class percussionist and singer Dendê Macêdo, music bridges the chasm between the earthly and heavenly planes — a conversation between matter and spirit, and a life-enriching communion with the divine that he strives to share with his audiences. All female Afro-Brazilian ensemble Fogo Azul is joined on stage by Adriana Portela, Bahian percussionist and leader who challenged gender norms and led the very first all female bloco-afro in Brazil with her group Banda Dida. Local DJ hero Greg Caz will play in between sets to keep this explosive night going.

After fifteen years of career, Brazilian singer-songwriter Céu is widely accepted as one of the most influential and important Brazilian artists of this century. She began her career in 2005 with an American Grammy nomination, shortly after changing the scene in her own country, by leading a new generation of female singers who also write their own songs and use digital media to promote their work. The three-time Latin Grammy Award winner CéU takes the stage with her innovative blend of MPB, electronica, samba and soul.. Joined by singer-songwriter Rommel who blends popular Brazilian music with Afro-Beat, funk and jazz, and DJ Ubunto, this night celebrates the brilliance of Brazilian music.

Rommel, Brazilian singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer mixes elements of popular Brazilian music with Afro-beat, Reggae, Funk and Jazz, breathes and transpires authentic and upbeat music. The concert is followed by a dance party with Ubunto, Bahian DJ and producer who has worked with names like Adriana Calcanhoto, Fafá de Belem, Vanessa da Mata and others, joined by Gaspar Muniz, one of our resident DJs.

Inspired by the popular characters created by Renato Russo for Eduardo & Mônica, one of the most recognized songs from the Brazilian band Legião Urbana, the eponymous feature film will have its New York premiere. The timeless romantic comedy stars famed actress Alice Braga and new talent, Gabriel Leone, who starred in Amazon Prime’s DOM series. In addition to receiving positive reviews in Brazil and the United States, the film has been featured in renowned international festivals. Directed by René Sampaio.

Samba / Samba Circle
One time Latin Grammy percussionist and band leader Luan Barbosa brings together an explosive ten-piece Roda de Samba (samba circle) for an outdoor show filled with high energy and dancing. Barbosa has performed with likes of Gloria Stefan, Ricky Martin, Raça Negra, Ana Carolina and many others.

"Ser Manguezal," created by Eliseu Cavalcante, was inspired by Josué de Castro's book "Of Men and Crabs." De Castro was a Brazilian geographer, physician, writer and activist against world hunger. The project features the relationship between men and mangroves, unifying them and making the human being part of this biome. The project showcases the mangroves as a battleground faced by the heroes who depend on this ecosystem to survive; seeks to recognize the hard-working mangrove crab hunters and make their work more visible; and to bring awareness about the social and environmental importance of mangroves.

Baile Funk / Tropical Bass / Mashups
The festival closes out with a big party featuring Leo Justi (Heavy Baile), João Brasil and Daniel Haaksman. Leo Justi is the producer behind Heavy Baile, the Rio based collective whose music and dance performances have taken the world by storm. João Brasil is a Rio de Janeiro based DJ and producer who will make his US debut and known for his Brazilian mashups, funk carioca and synthpop. Last but no least, the closing party also features Daniel Haaksman, the Berlin based DJ and producer who has been extremely influential in advancing Brazil’s favela sounds to the world through his Man Recordings label.
